This is the third video in a new series that focuses on generative modular ambient. In these videos I'll be using my Eurorack modular system to create meditative patches that breathe and float. I am especially interested in generative processes, allowing the modular system to "play itself" and create slowly evolving textures that have no beginning and no end. Patch Notes: Hermod and Pamela's New Workout are being used as the generative heart of this patch. Hermod is playing eight sequences, but the order in which those are being played is being triggered randomly by Pamela's New Workout. (Hermod is set to change sequences with CV input from 0 to 5V, and Pam's is sending Hermod random voltage on every beat. Once the current sequence completes, Hermod plays whichever sequence Pam's has randomly queued at that moment.) Each sequence contains a random, but scaled, set of notes that are sent to Mutable Instruments Rings. Every other sequence also contains a track for Mutable Instruments Plaits, which is producing the swelling bass sound. The same envelope for the bass is also sweeping a low-pass filter in Prism as the envelope opens. The bass is going straight to the mixer without additional processing. A series of slow LFOs from Ochd are being used to trigger three vocal samples loaded into the Bitbox Micro. The vocal samples and the output of Rings are being fed into Arbhar. Arbhar is configured to function like a tape loop: It is continuously recording incoming sounds and gradually overwriting the audio buffer. Grains are being triggered at a moderately slow rate, with Ochd moving the play-head across the buffer slowly and spraying grains on occasion via another LFO. Arbhar's output is being fed into FX Aid for reverb before going out the mixer. I think this patch is pretty unique. It feels dreamy and surreal, while maintaining a sense of peace and lightness. The addition of the processed vocal samples also gives it more of a prototypical Innesti flavor. Video footage by MVF.
