This video shows my experience of going 1st Class on the EuroNight Ister, the overnight train between Budapest and Bucharest. I carry alot of camera equipment and decided I wanted a secure room for my trip between Budapest and Bucharest. I decided to go for the 1st class 1 person cabin and ended up buying what is the most expensive ticket available (which cost me £155 inc credit card fees in Aug 2016). I have summarised my findings at the end of the video. My main conclusion is that you are not paying for the luxury, you are paying for the privacy. Postscript on 'backwards' Romania: Separately to this trip I booked online (about 6 weeks beforehand) a return train day trip between Bucharest and Brasov on the same website. I booked 2nd class one way and first class return to see the difference as the extra cost was only about £3. On the day the first class carriage simply wasn't there and I was a bit annoyed to say the least (partly because the platform officer gave me the wrong information). I thought about complaining when I got home but frankly thought that would be a waste of time and forgot about it. I returned to the UK 3 days later and received an email that day apologising for the missing carriage and promising a refund of the cost difference...which arrived another 2 days later. Now why can't the train/plane/bus companies in the UK be that efficient?
