To close out the (current) Trip Through series, this time Bret takes a look at the poetry of Bertran de Born. Bertran serves as something of a companion piece to his look at Dhuoda of Uzès and ‘Antarah ibn Shaddad. As a military aristocrat troubadour, Bertran’s poems extol the uncomplicated delight for and value of war, which Bret examines as not a mere social act but as an earnest, personal expression created by the circumstances of a military aristocracy like the one Bertran was a part of.
