The second generation electrostar is one of my favorite trains. They are pretty fast and work really well. They are much better than the older generation electrostars which were too slow and often smelt of toilets. The second generation Electrostar took the design of the original and improved everything that wasn't right about it and removed all of the defects. It is a well designed train because it is the evolution of a design that has been built for many years. To put it simply, Bombardier perfected the design (which has produced a better train than designing something new). It is much better than the crap trains produced by Stadler, CAF and Siemens, who build complete rubbish that are annoying and slow (although Siemens is good in other countries, they are crap in the UK). The only mainline train in the UK better than the Electrostar 2 is the Hitachi/Javilin series of trains.
