In week 17 we tested analog MAF sensors, this week we are going to test a digital MAF sensor. The sensors operate very similar to one another but the digital MAF sensor has an extra circuit built into the MAF sensor that converts the airflow measurement into a digital signal. This digital signal varies in frequency to represent the change in airflow. The faster the signal switches from 0v to 5v and back to 0v the more air is flowing across the sensors hotwire element. although the signal shape can be import to up we really want to see the frequency of the waveform. With the Snapon scanner/scope (I used the Snapon Triton D10 with 21.2 software) we should use the digital multimeter function and select Hz for out probe. The scale or range should be 0-15khz or 0-20khz. The component test meter selected 10khz for me and I exceeded that value when I turned the key on. With the picoscope we can do this with a math channel or by selecting frequency instead of AC/DC next to the channel setting tab. I had better luck with a DC analog setting and then adding a frequency math channel.
