The Future Cost of ETS2 & ATS

In 2025, you can play Euro Truck Simulator 2 or American Truck Simulator for just a few dollars, and yet for as long as these games have existed, there have always been voices in the community calling them a money grab, blaming SCS Software for releasing too many DLCs and not actually improving the gameplay. To understand where that perception comes from, you have to look beyond the base game and consider what 2026 brings as upcoming content and DLCs. Today, ETS2 and ATS feature hundreds of purchasable DLCs, most of them map expansions. For more than a decade, this has been the core of SCS Software’s business model. They grew outward, one region at a time. Recently, however, something has started to change. Alongside upcoming map DLCs such as Nordic Horizons, the UK rework, Ireland, Iceland for Euro Truck Simulator. British Columbia, Louisiana, Illinois and future US state expansions moving further north and east for American Truck Simulator. Next year, SCS Software is expanding into new paid content categories. We now have Project Coaches in Euro Truck Simulator 2, Road Trip Mode car packs in American Truck Simulator, and most recently, the announcement of Classic Trucks that is likely to be a paid DLC. In this video we take a step back and ask a simple but fair question. Starting with 2026, what does the future cost of ETS2 and ATS actually look like? This is not about defending SCS Software. It is about understanding how a 13 year old game keeps growing, what that growth costs, and whether this model can remain balanced in the future.
