Learn about what is legal and illegal regarding growing marijuana in California (updated for 2020). ------ The Health and Safety Code Section 11362.77 says that: • A patient may possess up to eight (8) ounces of dried marijuana and jointly possess with their primary caregiver no more than six (6) mature or twelve (12) immature marijuana plants. • Patients and caregivers may exceed possession and cultivation limits upon their physician’s recommendation and/or local ordinances. • Minors under 18 can also use medical cannabis, but they can only use it under the supervision of a legal guardian who is at least 18.
