On October 15, 2021, I was on duty, in my full NMSP uniform displaying my badge of office. I was in a fully marked New Mexico State Police unit patrolling in the City of Albuquerque, County of Bernalillo within the State of New Mexico. At approximately 2343 hours, I was westbound on Interstate 40 (I-40) at about the 163 Mile Post (MP) when a gray in color Volkswagen sedan passed me in the number 1 lane of travel at 90 Miles Per Hour (MPH) posted speed on I-40 is 65 MPH. As I caught up the vehicle the driver went from left to right crossing over the dotted line with the passenger side of the vehicle. I called out the stop to NMSP Dispatch and turned on my emergency equipment. The driver passed the San Mateo exit, then the driver went from the number 1 lane to the number 4 lane of travel. As the driver exited I-40 at Carlisle Blvd the driver went onto the shoulder continued up the off-ramp almost striking the concrete barrier. The continued northbound I turned on my sirens, then passed to more parking lots and turned abruptly into a parking lot on the coner of Carlisle Blvd and Manuel Blvd. I made contact with the driver through the driver-side window. I identified the driver by her NM driver's License , driver was crying and stated she was just trying to get away, I could smell the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from her vehicle. I had the driver meet me at the rear of her vehicle and in front of my patrol vehicle. While speaking with the defendant in front of my unit, I observed her eyes were bloodshot and watery. My lapel camera did not immediately turn on when I realized this, I turned it on and continued my investigation. I observed the defendant's words were slurred as she spoke. The defendant stated she consumed 2 drinks of alcohol prior to driving. Due to the totality of the circumstances and my training and experience I asked the driver to submit to Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST's). She stated without being questioned that she was intoxicated and was driving terribly 5-0 PATROL provides unbiased and authentic footage of incidents captured on body cams.
