Welcome to Tamarindo. Tamarindo is a beautiful beach city located on the Guanacaste coast of Costa Rica. The drive from La Fortuna, Costa Rica to Tamarindo is about 3.5-4 hours The drive from San Jose, Costa Rica to Tamarindo is about 4-4.5 hours So keep those drives in mind when you're traveling from either La Fortuna, Costa Rica, or San Jose, Costa Rica. The fastest way to arrive at Tamarindo is from Liberia, Costa Rica is about 1.5 hours. We did none of these routes, we drove from Monteverde, Costa Rica to Tamarindo, in a rain storm and it took 6 hours. This is not to be discouraging because once we arrived in Tamarindo it was well worth it. Tamarindo, Costa Rica is a busy tourist town perfect for loungers, vacationers, and those seeking a chill but lively beach vibe. Tamarindo is easy to arrive to, as it is one of the few areas in costa Rica where beaches (in the Guanacaste Coast) are easily accessible by car. In Tamarindo Costa Rica, you will be welcome with a lively beach town, heavy on the tourist vibes. The main beach strip of tamarindo has everything a tourist could want (minus umbrellas), resorts, restaurants, shopping and surf shops.
