Like Lunkentuss, Bambina was often used as a riding animal. 300,000 children are said to have ridden on her back. In total, Skansen was home to seven elephants. Tragic end for the elephants In 1990, the Swedish Board of Agriculture condemns the elephant house. It was simply too crowded. There was no money for a new house, so now they were leaving. Elephant keeper Dan Köhl fought for the elephants to remain. After many trips, the elephants were donated to Cricket St Thomas zoo in England where it was thought they would get better. But instead it was the opposite, according to their attendant. Maybe I think it was sad that it turned out the way it did, because it wasn't completely fair play and there were a few question marks around it. But that's how it happened, says Dan Köhl.
