How does one diagnose odontogenic sinusitis (ODS)? Isn’t it simple? Well in some ways, absolutely. But, why then is it frequently missed by the various clinicians necessary to diagnose the condition? One reason is that no diagnostic criteria have been established in national or international sinusitis guidelines. Recently I had the honor of leading an international consensus statement on diagnosing ODS, which was published online through the International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology in February 2021. This video highlights the study’s basic methodology, and highlights the central tenets of diagnosing ODS: suspecting the condition based on certain clinical features, confirming the sinusitis by otolaryngologists, and confirming the dental pathology by dental specialists. One key point of this work was to highlight the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration for accurately diagnosing ODS. Spread the word!
