EPIC NZ! The Central Otago Rail Trail, Curling at Maniototo and The Platypus Gold Mining Submarine

We spent four days completing the Central Otago Rail Trail in NZ in April. The Otago Central Rail Trail was the first to be established in NZ. When it closed, the line was vested to DOC, who with the help of the Central Rail Trail Trust converted the old railway line to a suitable track for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The Trail runs through country not seen by the road and is 152kms of mostly flat Trail which was relatively easy riding. We rode our ebikes from Clyde to Middlemarch and we had lovely autumnal weather, a little cold some days but we had no rain. We booked our tour through Big Sky Bike Adventures and Jackie was amazing to deal with. There were plenty of bridges to ride over, 3 tunnels to ride through and places to stop along the way. At the end of each day we stayed at our prebooked accommodation and our bags were taken through on a transfer each day. We used panniers for our lunch, water and extra clothing. Along the track there are interplanetary sculptures, the moon, sun and planets are scaled to size and distance with markers along the trail.
