by Alyssa Spirato The city shakeup continues in Fort Oglethorpe. Even though it's been days since a resignation of a city manager and the firing of two city officials, it's still proving to be the talk of the town. Many spoke to NewsChannel9, saying they are still baffled at Friday night's events at City Hall. Although some business owners say they've seen it all in years throughout city government, it's never been this bad.Nestled on Lafayette Street in Fort Oglethorpe sits 21 years of history. Jack Goodlet prides his restaurant Park Place on home cooking and local clientele. You could also say time has this business owners in the know when it comes to the town's latest gossip. On everyone's agenda, the recent city shakeup at city hall Friday night. From what I understand it was just a personal like, dislike situation there, says Goodlet. But the sad part for Goodlet is he's seen it before and he's not pleased. There's a pattern here in Fort Oglethorpe for years, and years, and years. It's more the mentality of children at a daycare center fighting over a balloon, or a ball or a truck. Yet those people are still running our city, says Goodlet.Emotions were flying Friday after City Manager Ron Goulart says he was forced to resign. After Mayor Long appointed Harold Silcox as interim, Silcox turned around 30 minutes later and fired Police Chief David Eubanks and Public Works Director Jeff Long.I mean when you got somebody that's been there for 19 years I mean, it's not just affecting that person it's affecting their whole lives. To do it in a 30 minute span of one person coming in not getting the details, that's irresponsible, says longtime resident Craig Crawford.Other local business owners like Crawford and Bruce Fine say after Friday's events they have little faith in the city they live in.I don't see anything happening good from what happened Friday. The problem is there's so much problems out here in the city, no body wants to run for any offices, says Fine.
