Although this is my intention, the clip is not able to show what the kayaker sees. Our eyes see, in a certain simplification of course, as a lens with a focal length of 50mm attached to a full frame body. The wide angle of the gopro camera recedes and flattens everything around us and thus takes away the "drama" of events from which the kayaker is lucky to draw in handfuls. At the 4th minute and 22nd second of the clip, a tall spire shoots far, far into the sky. I guess even in a gopro image it looks impressive, in fact it's something stunnig, breathtaking and leaves you speechless. It is located on a stretch of cliff coast between Saksun# and Tjornuvik#. I paddled this section twice in both directions and it is probably the most beautiful cliff I have ever done. The coastline there is very fragmented. The ocean raging for centuries ripped out Streymoy# leaving countless sea stacks in the water, a real rock garden, and not just here and there, the whole run from Tjornuvik to Saksun is like that. Eysturoy's famous Giant and Witch# is a piece of cake compared to these forms, but there is no viewpoint like in case of G and W that would attract thousands of tourists and make it famous ... And let it stay that way. The second time I entered this zone with very limited visibility and low clouds hiding the tops of the rocks. This was a real troll’s fairy tale. It actually took me 2 minutes and 15 seconds to go through the rock tunnel that I start at the 42nd second into the clip. If we assume a fairly low speed of about 3 km/h, it will give us a length of 112.5 meters. While paddling it, I was convinced that its length exceeds 100 meters, but perception sometimes fails us. However, this verification confirms my subjective feelings. In its middle part, I estimate the width to be about 2.5, even 2 meters - I had problems to "fit" a 2.1-meter long paddle. None of the clips from the gopro has been processed/enhanced. The clips are "raw" as recorded by the gopro camera. I mention this because the white balance on the material shot during fog and low clouds went mad. A big wave (and solid they were - the wide angle completely flattens it) or turning my head slightly was enough to change the colours within one shot - this may be some indicator of how dynamic the environment around the kayaker was. In order not to prolong, I will end my commentary on the clip with these three remarks. Endorphins and adrenaline in its purest form. #seakayaking #faroeislands #streymoy #eysturoy #streymoy #giantandwitch #kajakarstwomorskie #wyspyowcze
