Sure, when you think workwear maybe Carhartt or Dickies come to mind, but I've found that Filson designs which have been around for a while seem to work exceptionally well for my everyday chores. Take for example the Filson Packer Hat in their Mackinaw wool, I still have my fathers old Mackinaw wool Cruiser and it's a hard-wearing piece of clothing that hardly shows any signs of wear. This Mackinaw wool is tough and warm, plus it has a beautiful texture to it which just looks cool. So for the snowy days out on a hike, getting firewood, or even just getting the mail I was in need of a brimmed hat. The Packer Hat is very sturdy and thick, it seems like it may last forever if taken care of! The great thing about wool is that it's naturally water resistant, fire resistant, and warm even when wet. So while this may not replace the best DWR treated tech-wear, it's combination of handsome rugged appearance, warmth, and durability have made it my first choice in the winter months in New England.
