Paul, you have long been a hero of mine — not just for the music, but for the intelligence and emotional candour threaded through it. In your work, I often saw parts of myself: the overthinking, the intensity, the restless need to turn feeling into sound. I felt a kinship there. Perhaps that’s why this matters as much as it does. During a period when alcohol distorted my judgement and magnified my worst impulses, I behaved in ways that were unfair and publicly unkind. What I framed as passion was, in truth, projection. What I mistook for honesty was simply noise. For that, I am sorry. Admiration should never curdle into chaos. Respect should never become entitlement. If I crossed that line — even subtly — the responsibility is mine alone. Sobriety has a way of sharpening the mirror. I see now how much of my frustration was with myself, not with the artists I claim to revere. We are alike in temperament, perhaps — but that likeness should have deepened my empathy, not excused my behaviour. Your music helped shape me. It deserved better from me. I don’t ask for absolution.
