Hall Gap Zoo is a short drive from Horsham, Victoria, close to the Grampians National Park. Cockatoos are really smart. You can see the sulphur crested cockatoo, the highest one in the tree, tipping its's head from side to side, trying to work out what we were doing when we were filming it. Also the yellow-tailed black cockatoo, the one on the right, in the cage, facing away from us, it tipped its head forward to look back at us from underneath the perch. They are beautiful and very intelligent. At the end, which is near the entry / exit, I watched the tortoise for about 5 minutes, trying to get the piece of capsicum on the string. In the end I asked the lady who worked there about it, thinking it's not going to get anything to eat if it can't get it's mouth around it, because it's too slow, and she said it gets fed separately and having the food on the string is just for "enrichment", to give it something to do. It's an interesting concept and something a lot of zoos do these days. At other zoos we've been to, we were told how they hide the food under logs or in boxes, so the cheetahs have to look for it (sometimes, not all the time) or hide food in different places for the meerkats.
