Palmetto State Armory PSA-10 impressions and review

This is a one take a video of my thoughts and impressions as well as an informal review on the Palmetto State Armory “daily deal” AR-10 rifle. This was filmed outdoors on my front porch. Apologies for the wind noise. The PSA-10 is a value priced AR-10. It's on the lighter side as AR-10s go, around 8 pounds. It's standard AR-10 in regards to the upper/lower and controls, the exception being a Geissle trigger group. The stock is a Magpul STR. Handguard is is PSA M-Lok free float. Barrel is 18" SS R4 mid length gas system, standard A2 muzzle device. Like any AR rifle, there is the distinctive "twang" sound during recoil, and charging the bolt sounds like scraping sandy grit. To solve this, I (always) added a JP flat wound spring that is much smoother and quieter than a mil-spec/standard spring. The gun does not come with sights. I mounted a Leupold L/R-T 3.5-10 x 40 FF scope with custom turrets with ballistic solution for M118 L/R. The scope sits in a Badger Ordnance uni-mount with 20 moa of elevation built in. This AR-10 was quite the pig regarding recoil. I think it's the worst recoil I've experienced from any .308/7.62. To solve this, I turned down the gas.... a lot. The PSA-10 comes with an adjustable gas block, and as it was set from the factory, it was over gassed. I also added a muzzle break, a dead air key mod, compatible with dead air cans. On my first outing, I shot Federal .308 GM Sierra 175 SMKs. I was very pleased with the accuracy. 3 shot groups of 0.75-0.5" were the standard, with the occasional 1" group. Very impressed so far. The rifle did not like 118 L/R or 168 SMKs. Those shot 1 1/2 - 2" groups. Later, after changing the A2 flash hider for the break, I returned and tested the 168s and 118 L/R again, along with some FGMM 7.62 175 SMKs. All ammo performed admirably, with 12 3 shot groups of all ammo averaging 0.9"" overall. The 168s performed the best this time, averaging 0.79", with the FGMM 7.62 175s right behind them at 0.88" Ammo is scarce, so all testing was done with 100 rounds of ammo. I am not sponsored, and at today's prices, that's more than a hundred bucks to shoots a few shots off. That said, out of those 100 rounds, there were zero malfunctions. Considering the price, I am very pleased with my results. I would recommend the PSA-10 to anyone on the fence (if you can get it). I would not expect to achieve the accuracy my rifle exhibited. Every gun is a bit of a lottery from gun-to-gun, and I think I won. Good luck with yours if you pull the trigger to buy one. I would expect 1.5-2" from an AR-10 in this price range at best. If you get lucky like me, congrats, but don't be disappointed if you don't. At $1200 ish dollars your still getting a rifle comparable in accuracy (1.5 moa) to much more expensive offerings.
