Some 3U Audio vocal mics compared: the old model CM-1 Black and later CM-1 SE Teal, and Warblers MkI, MkII and MkIV. I've used my favourite mic at top of head level pointing down to mouth position, which I find for unnaccompanied singing often produces a pleasant balance of chest, voice and nasal tones. Despite what the wide angle lens appears to suggest, the mouth to mic distance is little finger to thumb plus one fist. The recorded segments are all normalised to -3dB. I've used an hpf in the DAW (curve included) in addition to the mic hpfs (there's a road outside, and rain was falling on the roof), but there is no other eq and no compression. The mics were 12in from my head. I also applied a touch of digital plate reverb. I know from experience, I know that if I'd set the mics up at a lower level - as I would have to if I were playing a guitar or melodeon - these mics would produce some quite different results. 3U mics are worth learning about, I think.
