Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Game of Thrones, GoldenEye) appears as Mitch Henderson, a flight director advocating for Watney’s rescue. Michael Peña (Ant-Man, End of Watch, American Hustle) plays Rick Martinez, the pilot of the Hermes spacecraft and one of Watney’s crewmates. Kate Mara (House of Cards, Fantastic Four, Chappaquiddick) portrays Beth Johanssen, the mission’s systems specialist, while Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I, Tonya, Pam & Tommy) plays Dr. Chris Beck, the crew’s medical officer. Donald Glover (Atlanta, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Community) has a memorable role as Rich Purnell, a brilliant yet eccentric astrodynamicist who devises a daring rescue plan.
