For the Massacre Recap, I would show a flashback from the Fireflies’ perspective, including the core members of Abby’s later crew of characters. I would’ve made Mel one of the nurses that was in the operating room when Dr. Jerry Anderson was killed by Joel. For Dina’s introduction to the show, I would do it like it was done in the actual HBO series, showing her interact with Joel & then linking up with Ellie to go on Patrol. Before anyone leaves for Patrol, I would further establish the state of Jackson with Tommy, Maria, and their now 5-year-old son from Season 1. While Ellie & Dina are on Patrol, I would also cut to Jesse with Joel on their route to get more of Joel in the first episode & show what Jesse references at the end. For the end of the Infected encounter, I am fine with adding the plot point of Ellie getting bit again, then being questioned by the Jackson City Council like was done in the HBO version. The transition from the Dance to the WLFs arriving would be the same as it was in the HBO series, teasing at an Infected Horde coming to Jackson.
