While I was there, some local children ran up to me and just wanted to know more about me. We became friends. They wanted nothing more than to hang out with me. I learned that a couple of them had no mother or father. They slept alone on the beach every night. They eat every day by asking the local vendors for the leftover fruits and vegetables. The ones that nobody purchases due to mold/cuts/bruises. Terribly sad, indeed. I thought that I would try to make their day a little brighter by simply hanging out with them. We made each other laugh, constantly - even with the language-barrier. San Jose is one of my favorite places!
