We are now heading to one of Mallorca’s most impressive natural attractions — the Arta Cave. The road to it runs along a picturesque coastline: the sea on one side, and pine-covered slopes on the other. At the entrance there is a cozy terrace and a small café. And here we are at the entrance. Arta is one of the island’s largest and oldest caves. It was discovered in the Middle Ages, with the first descriptions appearing in the 17th century. Inside, the temperature remains almost constant at around 18 degrees, creating a unique microclimate. One of the highlights of the visit is the light and music show. In complete silence and darkness, the hall gradually comes to life... The tour follows specially equipped paths which allow visitors to see the most impressive formations and the unique shapes of stalactites and stalagmites. Here is the “stone mushroom,” and nearby — the “stone waterfall.” Of special interest is the formation called the “flag” which resembles a thin stone sheet. One of the stalactites was named the “mammoth”, because of its distinctive curve. The cave consists of several enormous chambers, with ceilings reaching over 20 meters high, each differing in scale and form. Not far from the cave lies another important Mallorcan landmark — the Capdepera Fortress. This powerful 14th-century medieval stronghold rises above the town on a hilltop. It was built to protect residents from pirate raids and served as a lookout point. Today, Capdepera is a beautifully preserved historical complex with fortress walls, towers, and an ancient church inside. From here you can enjoy some of the best views of the surrounding area, and walking along the ramparts truly moves you into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages.
