VISS 2017 Armoured Combat Exhibition - Sean Hayes and Scott Farrell

VISS 2017 featured a Saturday Evening Gala, with live band, dancing, food refreshments - and exhibition bouts of arms between instructors. This is me and Scott Farrell fighting in the methods current at the very end of the 14th century - Scott from the German tradition of Johannes Liechtenauer and me from the Italian tradition of Fiore dei Liberi, both active in the latter part of the 14th century. Devon Boorman of Academie Duello does an excellent introduction to the differences between armoured and unarmoured combat - take the time to listen to it. And note also that Scott and I are using grips at the full sword, on the hilt, and not only at the half-sword, with one hand on the blade. It’s in the sources, and we’d like to make armoured combat less boring by following the actual methods of our martial forebears. ;) Enjoy!
