The formula for this mode is: root, second, minor third, perfect fourth, perfect fifth, minor sixth and minor seventh. From this scale we can extract a minor pentatonic scale. The Aeolian scale can also be seen as a minor pentatonic scale plus a second and a minor sixth. When it comes the time to improvise you can see the minor pentatonic as the skeleton of your speech and the two extra notes as flavorful notes.
