West Highland Way Day 1 & Day 2 30.06.2025-01.07.2025 Took a train from Glasgow to starting point, Milngavie D1 Milngavie to Drymen D2 Drymen-Rowardennan Day1 During my Camino del Norte way, Wen-Ning, one of my friend in Taiwan, who told me that she will come to Europe in Summer. Before she start her new seasonal job, she got some free time to hang out together in UK. West Highland Way is actually one of the trail I would like to explore in Scotland, so I mentioned to her and she seems interested in that, and the most important is that, it would be her first long distances trail! Since I’m kind of flexible so I took an eight hours bus from London to Glasgow to meet her, which is tough to stay in a tiny space for a long period. Then we took a train to Milngavie, the starting point of WHW the next morning to start our journey. The first day of WHW is flat, we walked along the river under forests, then went up some small hill into fields walks after. We met some people along the way, a lot of young hikers walked alone, some duos, and some Spanish couple and German family. This time we booked accommodations along the way and always dining in the bars or restaurants since the weather here during summer is kind of unexpected and I don’t really wanna pack wet tent and get wet without hot shower, in the end is a good choice since I felt so freezing on Day 5. The first day we planned only 12 miles, which is around 20 kms to warm up. The hotel we stayed in Drymen even offered swimming pool and sauna, so we had a really chill afternoon then had a big meal in the bar nearby. From now on, it’s 14 miles, 15 miles, 19miles, 21miles, 15miles coming up for next few days to the end, it shouldn’t be a problem if the weather isn’t too crazy. Let’s see. Day2 After you traveling more and more, sometimes if you visit a new place and it always reminds you of somewhere you’d been to. Day 2 we will trek along the sidewalk of Loch Lomond ,one of the popular tourist place in Scotland. Before we touch the lake, we had an opportunity to visit a small hill just nearby which is Conic hill, the view from there is gorgeous. You can see everything from there. It was not windy at the moment so I mentioned that we should take a break and enjoy the view. Then one of the most challenging part of the trip, midges came to welcome us. So basically in summer, when you hike in Scotland especially lakesides or forests, you will see some annoying small flying cuties. Well, the best way to avoid that is wearing hat with net and long shirt and trousers, or you just need to keep moving or stay indoor if it’s possible. Before arriving our hostel tonight, it’s almost dinner time and we were both hungry so we just had some proper meal with Guinness in a bar just 10 minutes walk from our destination. I just realized that how amazing Irish Guinness is in Ireland! The lakeside hostel tonight is amazing as well, there is a really big and beautiful grassland outside with a desk and lake with mountains view, also there is a big living room area, many hikers stayed there reading, drawing, playing cards and play guitar and singing. Then we went out to see the sunset going down behind the mountain ridge. / *West Highland Way(WHW): A linear long-distance route in Scotland. It is 154 km (96 miles) long, running from Milngavie, north of Glasgow, to Fort William in the Scottish Highlands, with an element of hill walking in the route. The trail, which opened in 1980, was Scotland's first officially designated Long Distance Route, and is now designated by NatureScot as one of Scotland's Great Trails. *Life in Motion by Scott Buckley | www.scottbuckley.com.au Music promoted by https://www.chosic.com/free-music/all/ Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... #Milngavie #Drymen #Rowardennan #westhighlandway #scotland
