Desert Precision Gunworks Rimfire Benchrest with Holeshot ' Big Bore Tuner'. Adding a tuner to a Desert Precision Gunworks Rimfire Benchrest is truly 'gilding the lily'! With the fine DPG build carrying its 1.2" proprietary barrel it's hard to imagine a tuner could offer a significant improvement. I had to find out for myself. Youtuber, Tommy Twenty-Two, has a nice video testing his L3I barrel with the Holeshot large diameter 22 rimfire tuner. It ran well and I thought to give it a go myself with the DPG barrel which was developed to improve and temper harmonics. In the comments section from the Tommy Twenty Two video, Kenny from Desert Precision Gunworks mentioned that his testing showed muzzle end add on weight needed to be 1 pound minimum to affect any change down range. The Holeshot tuner weighs in at 9.5 ounces. PQP sells a weight kit for this tuner, with 5-, 3-, 2- and 1-ounce pieces. I screwed together the 5- and 3-ounce pieces and when combined with the 9.5-ounce tuner, the total weight was 17.5 ounces. So made the 1-pound threshold. Group averages from prior outing with the rifle without use of a tuner were compared to a small set of groups with the tuner without additional weight added (just 2 groups), and groups with the setting at 300 with the addition of 8 ounces muzzle end weight. The setting at 300 I found to offer the smallest groups in this trial with weights added. Much more testing for setting performance could be done. Maybe. Most likely not. I just shoot at club level. Testing takes a good deal of time and resources. I think the results, (even given the small and unequal dataset), revealed what a superb tune Kenny accomplishes with his Rimfire Benchrest builds. Kudos to DPG!
