A Path Forward: Advancing Racial Justice for Our Kids | Dr. Stephan Blanford & Secretary Ross Hunter

A conversation between Dr. Stephan Blanford, Executive Director of Children’s Alliance, and Ross Hunter, Secretary of the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. Stephan and Ross discuss what is at stake for kids in the upcoming legislative session, and what we must do collectively to protect the future of all Washington children in these challenging times. Dr. Stephan Blanford has dedicated much of his career to advocacy and policymaking for children and families. He has led youth development agencies and educational institutions serving kids from birth to college entrance in Washington state. He was honored with the Leadership for Equity award at the culmination of his term as an elected school board director for Seattle Public Schools in 2017. Ross Hunter serves as the Secretary of the Department of Children, Youth, and Families, where his focus is on improving outcomes for all children, and especially on eliminating race and family income as predictors of progress and success for young learners. He was Director of the Department of Early Learning from 2015-2017, and State Representative for the 48th District from 2003-2015. As chair of the Appropriations committee from 2010 through 2015, Ross was responsible for negotiating three biennial state budgets.
