I have always had a soft spot for metal albums that have a misleading album cover, probably the best example would be that Sacred Son album. So when looking for new music to listen to on BC I was surprised to discover this album wasn't moody bedroom pop, but instead dreary, depressive black metal. Luna Pythonissam is a 2-piece black metal project based in Mexico. This EP weighs in at 4 lengthy tracks each helping to paint a lonely, dismal atmosphere. Everything is cloaked in reverb giving the mix a dreamlike, cavernous sound. Luna Pythonissam incorporates some more "post-rock" or "blackgaze" elements into the brand of black metal, with swirling synths or melancholic plucked riffs often hanging out in the background of the tracks. I think the stand out element of this EP is the lead vocalist's high pitch shrieks. They're completely haunting and tied everything else together.
