Following the Route 17 bypass, which was constructed several years ago, businesses along old Route 17 in Parksville closed or suffered financially due to a of a lack of traffic. What was once a bustling thoroughfare through the small Sullivan County community has become a ghost town, but that is all about to change with the help of a developer with big plans for the small town. Dorna Parajuli, the manager of the Sunoco gas station in Parksville, said, "It's gonna help because itwill bring more people, and when there's more people we're gonna get more business." Parajuli is excited because developer Bruce Davidson has decided to invest considerable resources in restoring the blighted buildings at the well-known intersection of Parksville Road and Cooley Road. Davidson plans to open a restaurant and a vegetable stand where a once well-known ice cream parlor stood. "What we would like to do is put a restaurant back in here because it used to be a pizza and sandwich shop," Davidson said. "As far as the old ice cream stand is concerned, we're going to put a fresh market in there." Davidson said that restoring the Liberty Theater and old buildings like these is fun for him and the development benefits the community. "The residents are very appreciative. They stop here every day and thank us for what we're doing which is great, and very gratifying for me," he said.
