The Jaecoo J8 is a D-segment Premium Luxury SUV which comes in AWD and 2WD variants. The AWD is a 3-row (2+2+2) SUV with 200 L of boot space while the 2WD variant is a 5-seater with 738 L boot capacity. How about a 5-seater AWD variant? Both the C9 and J8 have the same power plant and both look great though the J8 does look better on the inside, in our opinion. However, the C9 has a 5-seater AWD variant, which suits our needs. Both J8 Premium Luxury variants are powered by the same mill which powers the Omoda C9 and the Tiggo 8 Pro - a 2 litre 4-pot Turbo which outputs 249 PS and 385 Nm of torque. Just like the C9, power gets routed to the wheels via an 8-speed AT, C9. The 2WD completes the century sprint in 8.8 seconds, while the AWD does it in 9 seconds. Top speed is 200 km/h. In terms of fuel consumption, the 2WD is slightly more efficient at 7.8 L / 100 km (WLTP), while the AWD does 8.1 L / 100 km. Size wise, the J8 is smaller than the Mazda CX-8. The J8's size is closer to that of a Hyundai Santa Fe and the Proton X90. Jaecoo J8: 4,820 mm (L), 1,930 mm (W), 1,699 mm (H), 2,820 mm (WB) Mazda CX-8: 4,900 mm (L), 1,840 mm (W), 1,730 mm (H), 2,930 mm (WB) Proton X90: 4,835 mm (L), 1,900 mm (W), 1,785 mm (H), 2,815 mm (WB) Hyundai Santa Fe: 4,830 mm (L), 1,900 mm (W), 1,780 mm (H), 2,815 (WB) Both interior and exterior takes design cues from various German marques. The front grille looks like it was inspired by the Panamericana design on a few 3-pointed star models. The headlight silhouette reminds us of the ones on the F30 BMW 3 Series. The rear light bar was probably inspired by Porsche. The AC vents look like they were also inspired by the ones from Mercedes. The interior, though very comfortable & feature packed, is not without missing features, e.g. sunglass holder. Also, the placement of the hazard light switch is questionable - it's located on the ceiling nearer to the front passenger. The rear USB ports are hidden, located below the rear AC controls. They need to move it higher like they did on the J7 PHEV. Other than that, the J8 is pretty much an affordable premium off-roader. It's comfortable, feature packed and it looks pretty darn good. The RM178,800 - RM198,800 price for the 2WD and AWD respectively makes the Jaecoo J8 a compelling option to its higher priced European competitors with a similar feature set.
