What happens when electronic music meets string quartet? We didn't know either but this is one of our most popular pieces that gets our audience dancing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art! Thanks to Dan Friel (composer), we perform this bubblegum pop tune to lighten your day up! Dan Friel is an American electronic musician based in Brooklyn. Friel was a founding member of Parts & Labor and played with the group until its dissolution in 2012. He began self-releasing solo recordings in 2001, and has since released music on Thrill Jockey Records. Dan Friel is a master of abrasive pop melody. Whether through his child-sized keyboard, and drum machine on his own or through his incendiary guitar playing in cosmic noise-pop trio Upper Wilds, Friel’s hooks bubble and froth from beneath a sea of crunching, squelching distortion and feedback. --- ETHEL Ralph Farris, viola Kip Jones, violin Dorothy Lawson, cello Corin Lee, violin ETHEL’s Foundation for the Arts Karen Jenkins, Executive Director Producer & Director Molly McBride Sound Recording Randall Crafton Kaleidoscope Sound Director of Photography Tom Hurwitz Lighting Designer Ned Hallick Camera Wolfgang Held David Smith Assistant Camera Laura Nespola Gaffer Kevin Hunt Grip Kelly Richardson DIT Alvah Holmes COVID Safety Captain Fiona Sherman Post Production Supervisor Christopher Boyd Audio Production and Sound Mixing Randall Crafton ETHEL Video Editor Christopher Boyd --- ETHEL's Signature Sessions: ETHEL Rocks "Kashmir" Led Zeppelin Bonham / Plant / Page arranged by Ralph Farris "Sweet Janis" Ralph Farris after Janis Joplin "Valedictorian" Dan Friel arranged by Kip Jones "Jay-Red" Kip Jones "Possessed by Obscurity" Rodney Yazzie --- Special Thanks Kaleidoscope Sound, Union City, NJ Randall Crafton and Jeremy Delaney The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair Reverend Scott Howard Gilman Foundation New York, NY The Board of ETHEL’s Foundation for the Arts Recorded live in Montclair, NJ October 23 & 24, 2020 Sound Mixed and Mastered at Kaleidoscope Sound, Union City, NJ
