To watch in stereo: • Roy Wood's Helicopters - Rock City / Givin... Both sides of the first single released by Roy Wood's Helicopters, released in 1980. In 1978, Roy Wood was producing Renaissance member Annie Haslam's album 'Annie in Wonderland'. Around this time, John Camp, the bass player from Renaissance, asked Roy to form a part time band. That is how Helicopters came to be. The band played at some live gigs (performing Move classics and 10538 Overture). The line-up was (I think): Roy Wood - guitar Jon Camp (Rennaisance) - bass Robin George - guitar Mike Deacon (Darts) - keyboards Paul Robbins (Wizzo Band) - keyboards Kex Gorin (Magnum) - drums However, Roy plays all the instruments and does all the voices (apart from some guest appearences) on the studio recordings. This wasn't the first time Roy Wood and John Camp had worked together. In fact, John had co-written 'The Thing is This (This is the Thing)' the b-side of Wizzard's last single, 'Indiana Rainbow', with Roy and John Tout (the keyboardist from Renaissance). Rock City's b-side, 'Givin' Your Heart Away', features Annie Haslam (you can hear her during all of the choruses except the first one). Carl Wayne would cover 'Givin' Your Heart Away' but it wouldn't be officially released until 2006 (on the 'Songs From The Wood' compilation). 'Rock City' is from 0:00-4:04 and 'Givin' Your Heart Away' is from 4:05-7:54
