British-Hungarian multidisciplinary artist Laura Medcalf offers a guided tour of Sense of Calm, her solo exhibition presented at the Liszt Institute London in partnership with the London Design Festival. Recorded during a special walkthrough, this video provides insight into Medcalf’s distinctive practice, shaped by her deep connection to landscape, light and water. Working with soluble, light-sensitive crystals, she creates her works directly at the meeting point between land and open water, allowing rivers, lakes and seas to imprint themselves onto the surface. From the Jurassic Coast to the Danube and Tisza rivers, Lake Balaton and the Mediterranean, each piece carries the physical trace of a specific place and moment. Rather than depicting landscapes, Medcalf’s works are collaborations with nature. Sunlight, weather, soil and water guide the process, balancing intuition and precision, control and surrender. The resulting compositions are open and expansive, inviting stillness, reflection and a sense of quiet presence.
