In 2024 I hiked the Pyrenean high route, which is my longest backpacking trip so far. I was not sure I would enjoy walking so much, but it turned out I like to through-hike. This is also my first video, and it feels special to relive my personal experience through video making, this is something unexpected, and I encourage others to try making videos. :) The HRP is a 800 km long hiking trail on the French-Spanish border from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. It winds near the watershed of the Pyrenees, crossing the highest passes with 50.000 m of elevation gain. It follows some GR tracks, but more often smaller, rugged mountain tracks, following cairns through boulder fields, scree and high vegetation, or trackless grass slopes. During the first two days we formed a small team with Steve and Nassim, I enjoyed their company quite a lot. We were the silent tipes, but preferred it that way. Steve had to quit due to an injury, but Nassim and I managed to complete the hike in 42 days including 2 restdays. Generally we are both solo hikers, but it was nice to have loose company on a long journey like this. Personally the most challenging aspects of this hike was to manage my knee pain for the last 2-3 weeks and not to loose too much weight (I’ve lost 6 kg, which is 10% of my weight as of july!) carrying and eating enough calories. Next time I’ll have to do better on these accounts. Also, you carry what is inside your head, you can't run away from that, there are less distraction on a through hike. I resolved it by deciding that some things don't pose a threat and dont deserve my attention anymore. There is progress. The positive surprises include that I finally learned that I can enjoy walking more slow. (my knee forced me to) That I felt really at home in my tent and in the little cabins, that I enjoyed the simplicity of walking, eating, reading, sleeping. And that everything felt easier than I feared and more beautiful than I hoped. My gear list: https://lighterpack.com/r/kcjjwf My Insta: molnar.ber / molnar.ber
