Budget hotel in Downtown Memphis! Review of La Quinta Inn & Suites Union Ave

I wanted to just do a little room tour, and the location of this hotel. I wasn't going to because it's a La Quinta and one La Quinta can be much like the next but so far really impressed because Downtown Memphis has always been quite expensive to stay, it's pretty expensive now to find a decent hotel. On top of the rate of downtown hotels you've also got the parking fee per night. Now, we're only one night in Memphis this time - we're just going down to downtown for a couple of hours and this evening in a bit, and then we're off to do Graceland tomorrow. But I wanted to just highlight this hotel because it's very close to downtown and, for Downtown Memphis, is extremely reasonable plus the car parking is free. I think it's the only hotel in downtown that you'll find with free parking. I'll just do the old quick room tour. We'll start by the window and as you can see that's Union Avenue, Just up the road is Memphis Recording Service - Sun Studio.the area directly behind that is The Edge. That's a bit of an up-and-coming district in Memphis with bars and restaurants and it's got the motor museum there. It's a very good Museum. that's part of Madison Avenue. And the road there, is Danny Thomas Boulevard. you can see quite a spacious room. we just just arrived now from driving from Nashville So there's a TV in this half of the room where the seating is and then there's a TV just next door in the bedroom side shall we say. Plenty of USB cables (points), this is a relatively new hotel anyway. King size bed. bathroom slash kitchen area, we've got a microwave, coffee maker and fridge. And then the bathroom well-lit mirror, plenty of towels, hair dryer. Flower artwork and a nice size walk-in shower We'll show the outside of the hotel and the location in respect to downtown it's location married with the price it is, it's a very good deal . The artwork of Memphis there. That's Court Square Memphis bridge, which is, every evening there's a light show on the bridge there's dancing lights on the Memphis bridge. That's the Daisy on Beale prior to its renovation. it could be Mud Island or it could be down on Riverside. Court Square there. This is North Main running in front here. It was built as a scale replica of the Woolworth Building in New York. And there's the Big River Crossing bridges further down the river. This is the foyer of La Quinta. It's got great pictures around the side of the Lorraine Motel and Sun Baseball / football stadium That's just a little bit further up on Union. 'Welcome to Memphis'. Beale Street at night. there's an indoor pool. Southern Motors or Southern Cadillac used to be where Elvis bought most of his Cadillacs and in one shopping spree bought 14 of them There's the FedEx forum just over there with the Beale Street Baptist Church you can see the Hotel Peabody It's easily within walking distance of downtown there That's another thing with this hotel as well, it's gated around the side so there's a bit of security you can see the sign from here - the Beale Street sign. That's at the East End of Beale Street, or at least the entertainment area. What's the baseball ground called, and the Memphis 901 football team Autozone Park is just up here on the right. That's the FedEx forum. That's basketball. Memphis Grizzlies More interested in Memphis 901 or even the baseball team. They've renamed that street Ida B Wells Street. she edited or wrote columns in the paper against lynching in the late 1800s here in Memphis. 'The Peabody Lobby. The Mississippi Delta begins in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel and ends on Catfish Row, Vicksburg'. David Cohn - 'God Shakes Creation' 1935. The year Elvis was born. You can imagine...you know when you walk in the Tower Of Terror you can imagine this is how it was. It has got Tower Of Terror vibes actually. This block of Beale where most of the clubs and restaurants are. And you can see the La Quinta over the other side there, so it's not far at all. There's a new statue since we came last time - Ida B Wells. As I said earlier she used to run an African-American newspaper out of the Beale Street Baptist Church there So that was our stay in La Quinta.Good comfortable bed. Breakfast is just the basic breakfast you get in chain hotels. So if you're looking for a more budget stay in Downtown Memphis that's close, within walking distance of Beale Street and the other downtown attractions and probably even closer to the Sun Studio actually, the La Quinta is definitely a good pick. And free parking - it's the only Downtown hotel you'll get free parking in. So, this morning we're heading down to Graceland. Bye bye
