Here is a test run of a very impressive model of German Federal Railroad (Deutsche Bundesbahn - DB) class VT 11.5 "Helvetia" TEE diesel powered rail car train made by Märklin/TRIX in HO scale in 2016 (TRIX SKUs: 22261 and 23261) as one-time series. The train route was Zürich – Basle – Mannheim – Frankfurt – Hamburg. The train looks as it did around 1957. Based on many revies this model is one of the best trainsets ever built. From TRIX site: The train is a prototypical 7-part set. The powered end cars and the intermediate cars constructed chiefly of metal. The model has a digital decoder and extensive sound functions. Each powered end car has controlled high-efficiency propulsion. Each powered end car has a truck with both axles powered. Traction tires. The intermediate cars have factory built-in interior lighting. The triple headlights and dual red marker lights change over with the direction of travel. They and the interior lighting will work in conventional operation and can be controlled digitally. Maintenance-free, warm white and red LEDs are used for the lighting. The train has a power pickup feature whereby power is picked up from the electrical pickups in the powered end car at the front of the train. The train has special multiple conductor close couplings and tight closing diaphragms with guide mechanisms between the cars. The ends of the train has a reproduction of the covered Scharfenberg coupler (non-working) at both ends. Train length over the couplers 880mm / 34-5/8". I was impressed with "Station announcement" sound function. The model has two of them and it plays Hamburg to Zürich or Zürich to Hamburg announcement, which change over with the direction of travel. From Wikipedia: The trainsets of Class VT 11.5 (often simply called TEE) were diesel multiple units built by Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) in 1957 and used for Trans Europ Express (TEE) services. Perceived as flagships of the DB rolling stock, they carried first-class seating only. When the UIC numbering scheme became effective on 1 January 1968, the power heads of the trainsets were renamed to Class 601 whilst the middle cars became Class 901 according to the DB locomotive classification. They were used for TEE service from 1957 until 1972 and thereafter on German InterCity services. In the 1960s, due to ongoing electrification, routes like the TEE Helvetia were changed to electric locomotive-hauled train sets. The diesel trainsets were reallocated to other TEE routes.
