U.S.A. September 17, 1979 "(2 completely different shows!)" source: master audience tape Charlie Mariano: winds Ranier : piano Eberhard Weber: bass (5 string) John Marshall: drums (RIP) Original taper comments: "comments: Eberhard Weber has won several awards for his bass playing and the great music of his band "Colours", an all-star caliber group of superb players. Those awards started coming about a year before this concert, and I was very impressed with his playing then, maybe even more so in this concert, because it is basically like 1 really long EWC show, no songs were duplicated in second show! (even though it was a seperate admission, well worth an extra $6!!!) nothing got cut (even though this gig has just 4 songs in each set) and I am very happy with the way it sounds, especially after a little ICPVR (individual clap peak volume reduction). The 1st EWC show (that I know of, not as part of multi-band mini-set show) in Boston area was him opening in 78 for Jack DeJohnette's Directions. This is the 1st as a headliner (and in this case, no warmup act). They don't need a warmup act either. This is music you want to hear for 3 hours (if you've got the time.) Sand, Silent Feet, Eyes that can see in the dark, the Colors of Chloe and Seriously deep were all played, and all the songs in these 2 sets were very well played by all 4 in the band. This may be the longest EWC gig I know of, and it was a very good one, the recording is complete (both sets). In other words, this says download me all over it. I didn't realize until recently, Weber is in Phil Lesh's generation, and as well as Phil has held up, Eberhard has held up pretty well too. unfortunately he suffered a stroke in recent years, so we hope that it's not as serious as it was for Pat Martino (who was quite a bit younger than Eberhard when he has his) Quite possibly the 2 best 70something bassists I can think of (along with Jack Bruce, R.I.P.). he was quite a bit younger and healthier in this show. This is Prime Colours." Thanks to glasnostdr19. Footage and production by bigfootpegrande.
