In this video I show you how I used “Cabot Deck Correct” (not sponsored) to restore my decking. This deck is a mess. It was built in 93 and if I had to guess, was not painted until recent years. It is very dried out, cracking, splintering and all the paint is peeling off. The worst part is the framing, without going into a ton of detail, I will just say that eventually the deck needs to be torn down and I need to start over with a new one. Until I have the resources to replace the deck, I wanted to do all that I could to make it safe. I did some things to the framing that make me feel a whole lot better about it but wanted to make the actual decking look nice and safe for my kids to play on. This “Deck Correct” had mixed reviews but I noticed that ALL products like this had similar reviews, Cabot just had less negative ones. I think the outcome of the product really depends a lot on your situation and how it is applied. In my case, I just need this deck to last another 1-5 years so I really think anything is better than nothing BUT I was very happy with the outcome. This product filled in all of the cracks in the decking, locked down small splinters and any remaining paint that the pressure washer didn’t remove. Hopefully it lasts! 🤞 This deck is about 340 sq ft. and I was able to do two thick coats with about 5 gallons. The color I used is "acorn" but there are a ton of different ones to choose from. Another huge problem with the decking is that because it has dried out and cracked so much, when it rains a lot, it will saturate the decking to the point that it expands to the point that the decking has no gaps for water to drain which continues to saturate the decking and makes the problem worse. The decking expands and contracts so much that it is contributing to the framing problems. Joists are moving away from beams, nails are working their way out of joist hangers and in the winter time water turns to ice and expands so much that the deck with randomly POP in the middle of the night. After the first coat I realized just sealing up the cracks would not help this that much so I came up with a way to give the water a place to escape. After temporarily fixing the framing, applying the “deck correct” and touching up the railings, I am confident that I will get a few more years out of the deck. Here are a few tips if you are doing this… 1. Check the weather! Make sure you have a few dry days before and after you paint. 2. Be careful when pressure washing. Don’t get as close with the tip as I did because you may damage the wood. 3. Use a roller if you can (I couldn’t because my decking was so cupped in places) 4. Lay it on thick! I think one reason people leave negative reviews is they may try to spread it too thin. It is worth having to buy more to get a good result! 5. Wear knee pads! My knees and legs are still messed up weeks later. 6. Try to have fun. 😁👍 Deck Correct - https://low.es/3SFLIW9 (Not an affiliate link) Pressure washer- https://amzn.to/3ZfGa8z Drill- https://amzn.to/4dK98TM Sawzall- https://amzn.to/43twSYX Leaf blower- https://amzn.to/442YQLe Gloves- https://amzn.to/3ZJoNgs Paint brush- https://amzn.to/43WXQZb Roller- https://amzn.to/4mNzCI6 Check out the other tools used on this and other projects here- http://bit.ly/FixerStore (Affiliate links) Join this channel to get access to behind the scenes videos: / @thefixerhomerepair • Subscribe on YouTube: https://bit.ly/SubscribeToTheFixer • Second Channel: / @thefixerhomerepair2 • Facebook: / thefixeronyoutube • Instagram: / thefixeryoutube • TikTok: / thefixeronyoutube • Website: https://www.thefixerhomerepair.com • Patreon: / thefixer • Amazon store: https://www.amazon.com/shop/thefixer *As an amazon affiliate I earn commission on qualifying purchases DISCLAIMER: This video and description contains affiliate links, which means that if you click on one of the product links and make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.
