"Is that what a Black man is worth? 20 dollars?" One of the brothers of George Floyd, whose death in Minneapolis sparked protests around the world, delivered a powerful opening statement to the Democratic-led congressional panel on Wednesday, asking them to "stop the pain" of Black people caused by police violence. "I'm here to ask you to make it stop. Stop the pain," a tearful Philonise Floyd, 42, said in testimony before the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee. "George called for help and he was ignored. Please listen to the call I'm making to you now, to the calls of our family and the calls ringing on the streets of all the world." Philonise Floyd's testimony before the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee was one of 10 others at the first congressional hearing examining issues of racial profiling and police brutality. Philonese thanked his big brother during his opening statement, saying "you changed the world, thank you for everything." Floyd, a Black man, died while in police custody in Minneapolis, Minn. after a white police officer kneeled on his neck for several minutes on Memorial Day.
