Nvidia RTX 5070 launch is done, now it’s time for AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT/9070, but I need more time!

It’s a windy day and I’m walking around the currently abandoned Milliken Middle School, getting some walking in before what will inevitably be a very long night. Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 reviews went live today, and everyone is angry about the insufficient supply — even though we don’t know what the supply is. Ironically, the same people are fully convinced AMD will have far more Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9070 cards available. That’s something that hasn’t happened in a long time, in part because Nvidia generally outsells AMD 8-to-1. But maybe this time will be different! Or maybe there will just be less demand for AMD’s GPUs? But I’ll be very surprised if there’s anywhere close to sufficient quantities to keep the price in check. The cards seem like they’ll compete well enough, but AMD has been far less focused on software than Nvidia. It’s why DLSS looks better and is used in about twice as many games as FSR2/3. At least we shouldn’t need to make as many excuses for the lack of AI and RT performance this time! Full reviews go up tomorrow at 6am PST.
