Enter PyMOL (Molecular Structure Visualization System) with Dr. Shabek - UC Davis (for beginners)

This video is a recording of a ZOOM session as part of Shabek Laboratory internal weekly meeting (during COVID-19). In this session we enter PyMOL - one of the several molecular structure visualization tools that are used in our laboratory at University of California Davis. Dr. Shabek guide the first steps in PyMOL towards visualization and analysis of published protein 3D structure: How do we open a 3D model, select and act on certain criteria and integrate different graphical representations (such as ribbon, cartoon, residues etc). How can we compare between two structures and use superposition to align the proteins backbones. As example, in this session we briefly analyze ubiquitin and K48 DiUbiquitin linkage. This recording was release following a request from members of the lab. We hope it will help and encourage more junior and senior researchers to take the first steps in visualizing their protein of interest. Shabek Lab at UC Davis studies molecular signaling pathways in plants that are regulated by the ubiquitin proteasome system. Our goal is to decipher fundamental biological pathways from the atomic to organismal level, and develop innovative strategies for the benefit of agriculture, environment, and human health.
