I look back at the time when this was first released and review the 2021 remaster and remix. Not only has the album been remixed but the tracklist has also been completely revamped with the two outtakes also getting a prime place in the remixed album. The remaster gives a bit more clarity, especially to the bass guitar and the backing vocals but it is the 2021 remix where all the real action is. The remix has been carried out by Christopher Collier and this is not one of those remixes where you struggle to work out if you can hear any differences. On this, YOU can hear the difference! This is like a brand new Whitesnake album. Not only is the mix brand new but so is the order of the tracks. David Coverdale's vision for this album has been fully realised and it flows so much better now. Opening with the title track everything about this is epic, stunning and full of emotion. From the backing vocals to the drums, guitars and of course Coverdale's vocals, this is just fantastic. The album sits in the middle of being a David Coverdale solo album and a Whitesnake album in full flight. The addition of Derek Sherinian on keyboards from Sons of Apollo and Dream Theater is a masterstroke. His keyboards and add a layer of depth and class to the whole album. I also love the instrumental OI ( Theme For An Imaginary Drum Solo ) which sound like Belgium Toms Hat Trick from Trouble on steroids!
