Adolescent girls who have early and sometimes unintended pregnancies face many social barriers when they want to continue with formal education. However, the good for them now is that government outlawed the barring of pregnant girls from attending lessons in the recently gazetted Education Amendment Act. The Act has been received with mixed feelings with some sections of the society saying the discrimination of pregnant girls was appalling as it destroyed the future of the girl child especially in situations where the boy child responsible for the pregnancy would not be affected.
