MIA PaCa-2 Cell Line: Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive malignancies with the poorest of prognoses. Delayed initial diagnoses from the lack of symptoms and reliable screenings along with a typically rapid progression establishes pancreatic cancer as a significant public health concern. Cell lines have been used for decades as models for biological and biomedical investigations. MIA PaCa-2 cells were first isolated in 1975 by A. Yunis et al. from the primary pancreatic tissue of a Caucasian male 65 years of age diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Mia PaCa-2 cells tested negative for alkaline phosphatase and do not express high levels of CEA. MIA PaCa-2 cells are hypotriploid in karyotype and display a floating round epithelial morphology. These cells have also been shown to express CSF-1 and plasminogen activator. There are a few normal chromosomes absent in MIA PaCa-2 cells, which display a 61 modal chromosome number. The doubling time of MIA PaCa-2 cells is approximately 40h and is used consistently and successfully as a biomedical transfection host. Altogen Biosystems formulated a MIA PaCa-2 specific transfection reagent that is lipid based and developed for max efficiency: https://altogen.com/product/mia-paca-...
