The Indian spiny-tailed lizard has been hunted for decades as an alleged cure for joint pain and erectile dysfunction. Despite the lack of scientific support for these beliefs, is nearing local extinction in various areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan. In 2015, Sahjeevan, a local NGO, supported by Wildlife Trust of India through a Rapid Action Project grant, worked with the community to raise awareness about protecting the lizards. This led to a complete stop of hunting in the landscape. However, black market activities persist in other parts of the country. *The video contains graphical visuals that some might find disturbing.
