This video is about how to attract bluebirds to your yard, and it discusses what works and what doesn’t. I’ve been able to create this video after years of working with bluebirds in my own yard and on trails, and by connecting with colleagues, too. Through observation, experience, and networking, I want to teach ways people can attract bluebirds. An important note: some people live in areas that are not suited for bluebirds. Their Western Bluebird box is a great option for your bluebirds, especially with nicer side ventilation. It also has a 5 x 5.5 inch interior floor space, which is becoming more popular among eastern bluebirds as well. This also means you can fit a nest box camera and a Van Ert nest box trap inside without either conflicting with the other. Though it is not quite as large as the Stovall nest box, it is a little more affordable, and it is still larger than most other off-the-shelf boxes. You can fit the Blink camera on its native mount without it stopping a Van Ert trap from snapping shut. You will need to drill ¾" vent holes into the tops of each side (2–3 holes per side) to allow more ventilation. We also recommend scoring kerfs into the interior under the exit hole to serve as a ladder for fledglings.
