Operation Blue Whale Museum version

This video explains how the Blue Whale skeleton in the main foyer of Melbourne Museum was retrieved and prepared for display. The whale washed ashore near Lorne, Victoria on the 5th of May, 1992. It took ten years for the skeleton to be prepared for display and I filmed the entire process over that time. Some aspects of the dissection were quite gross to witness and Maureen and I were saturated with the characteristic odour of dead whale for weeks after each shoot. Without doubt the whole experience was fascinating, with the ultimate reward being to watch people enjoying both the magnificent skeleton and watching this video.
