Sengbe Pieh was a West African man of the Mende people of Sierra Leone🇸🇱. In 1839, Sengbe Pieh was kidnapped and sold into slavery illegally. He was first taken to Lomboko Off the Gallinas Coast. Sengbe Peih together with countless others were illegally taken to Havana, Cuba where he was sold into Slavery and they were purchased by two Spanish plantation owners and the Spaniards arranged to transport Sengbe Pieh and others on the coastal schooner La Amistad with the intentions of selling them as slaves at Ports along the coast of Cuba to work on sugar plantations. On the voyage to Porto Principe, Cuba Sengbe Pieh led a revolt of many Africans on the Spanish slave ship known as La Amistad.
