(8 Mar 2026) RESTRICTION SUMMARY: ASSOCIATED PRESS Baghdad, Iraq - 8 March 2026 1. Various of US embassy complex with American flag 2. Travelling shot of building with C-RAM defence system 3. Various travelling shots of US embassy on bank of River Tigris STORYLINE: Explosions and the sound of air defences intercepting incoming missiles or drones were heard in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on Saturday evening. Three Iraqi security officials said that a missile had landed on the helicopter landing pad in the US embassy complex in Baghdad. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly. There were no reports of casualties. Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses government offices and diplomatic missions has been attacked in the past, but this was the first reported strike to land in the week since Israel and the U.S. began striking Tehran, triggering a war in the Middle East. Iran and allied Iraqi militias have launched dozens of attacks on US military bases and other facilities in Iraq since then. They have also struck bases of Iranian Kurdish dissident groups with operations in northern Iraq. Iraq's caretaker Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani called an attack launched on the US Embassy in Baghdad Saturday a "terrorist act" carried out by "rogue groups" and said he had issued orders to military and security agencies to pursue those responsible.
